Akia Jenkins

Biography

Akia was always interested in fitness at a young age.  She was born and raised in Gaithersburg, Maryland where she participated in Cheerleading, Basketball, and Track & Field starting at the age of four until graduating from college.  She graduated from Wesley College in Dover, Delaware with a Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science and plans to go back to school to obtain her Masters degree in Nutrition.

Currently working at a physical therapy facility as a Rehabilitation specialist, Akia uses her knowledge to teach others about the importance of nutrition and exercise in order for patients to return to their activities of daily living.  In addition, Akia is in her fourth year as head cheerleading coach for her college cheerleading team and spends a lot of time pushing them physically and mentally to be strong, positive, and healthy young men and ladies.

Three years ago her best friend introduced her to competing.  She would eat clean and train hard but never stepped on stage.  This past year she found the courage to compete for the first time in November 2011.  Once stepping on stage, Akia regained that competitive attitude that she had growing up.  Being a bikini competitor not only opened doors for her, but it motivated her to be a stronger person and a positive role model not only for the females in the world but for the vertically challenged women out there as well.  Fitness will always be apart of Akia’s everyday life and she intends to reach every goal she sets for herself.

I'm 25 yrs old and I am currently an active duty marine as a combat instructor and I am also on the marine corps bodybuilding team.

I am from Moody, TX, graduated high school in 2004. Upon graduation played football at Blinn Junior College for a year and a half. After college was not working out so well, I dedicated to join the military in 2006. Since then I have done  four successful deployments and have earned numerous awards for actions in combat.

I always had a dream and wanted to persue bodybuilding so when i finally got to a point in my military career where I don't have to deploy any more I decided to start training for a show.

The goal with bodybuilding is to take it as far as i can and hopefully one day God willing I'll earn my pro card I am still very young and hungry to be successful in this sport.

I currently reside in San Diego, CA and train out of Worlds Gym. I am blessed to have a very good trainer and coaches who support me along with my family, close friends and most of all my great sponsors ALR INDUSTRIES & SMOOTHIE D'S Supplements. My mom, dad and three younger brothers  are my biggest support crew.

Besides training, I love spending time with my 3 year old son as much as possible, and hanging out with my girlfriend, DANESA ROBLES who is also sponsored by SMOOTHIED'S and is a nationally ranked  bikini competitor who is training for her pro card. I recently have been casted in a movie called Family Blood. We start filming in two weeks and it will be released next year, so i have alot to be excited about.

My future goals are to keep competing as I have switched from bodybuilding to mens physique as I make a run for my pro card in 2012. I feel very blessed that I have the chance to do this in life and chase this dream and as long as there is air in my lungs and a heart beat in my chest, I will continue to strive for this.

I would like to give a special thanks to GOD and my family, to my trainers and coaches Louis Uridel and IFBB PRO Sabrina Taylor, Smoothie D's owner Derek Tittle and author and laina Rea the owners of ALR INDUSTRIES, training partner Thomas Welsh and my amazing girlfriend Danesa Robles.

Bio

I'm a mother, artist, bikini competitor born May 27,1985 and raised in Yuma,AZ.  I'm a young single mom who tries to enjoy life to its fullest.

My life revolves around my daughter Raina, who is now two years old.  Born  at 36 weeks she weighed only 4lbs 3 ounces and was diagnosed with Congenital Heart disease.  Raina was also diagnosed with a genetic disorder known as chromosome 7 deletion. The decision to become a stay at home mom was instant, to provide the best care possible for my daughter.  Our life is full of consent doctor and therapy appointments.

When someone asks me what I do, I tell them, "I stay home and take care of my special needs daughter" and I'm not in the least ashamed or embarrassed. I have learned that most people who don't think much of a stay-at-home mom don't know how much is really involved.  My daughter is developmentally and physically behind and it's my job to catch her up where she needs to be; I can get a career later.  Despite any difficulties, Raina is a happy toddler and thriving everyday.

As a stay at home mother I found the gym to be my outlet.  I'm the crazy girl in the gym wearing her hat down low, ear phones in, "doing work!!"  The reason why I started competing was for a personal goal and to have the motivation to wake up everyday and feel accomplished by the end of the day. I fell in love with improving my body, mind and spirit.  I found my trainer Jamo Nezzar who is able to help me focus and push me to the limit.  Not only in nutrition and exercise but with life goals.

With two highly competitive bikini competitions coming up, Arnold Amateur & the USA'S I'm excited to make improvements and see my body transform. I love competing and look forward to getting on stage each time.  This next phase of my life is very exciting, new boyfriend, upcoming bikini competitions, college in the spring, I cannot wait to see where this journey takes me.
